A villager from housing complex Marindal Asri , Medan read about ISCP action to save endangered wildlife and called us about the Sumatran laughingthrush( Poksai ) that he was keeping as a pet song bird.

In coordination with the wildlife authorities( BKSDA) office in TWA Sibolangit, we confiscated this song bird this week. It is being held at the rehabilitation centre for study before release.

The Sumatran laughing thrush is listed only as “Vulnerable” by the IUCN and does not have legal protection in Indonesia. Regardless of these, it remains one of the most hunted song birds for the pet trade to a point where most forests in Sibolangit do not hear its voice anymore.

Help us save Indonesia’s song birds and empty those cages.
